The “off stoned item” is a ceramic bowl designed to provoke curiosity and engagement through its unique blend of natural and man-made aesthetics. Inspired by the forms and textures found in nature, this piece challenges conventional expectations of functional objects. It encourages users to explore its form and, in doing so, discover its function. Comprising two mirrored, organic shapes with a central hole, the bowl is designed for versatility.

Each shape is made up of two interlocking parts, allowing the vessel to be opened and used for storing small items. The glazed surface mimics the appearance of stone, further blurring the lines between the natural and the artificial. The design intentionally avoids any overt clues about its intended function, inviting users to interact with it and determine its utility for themselves. By combining organic forms with man-made characteristics, the

“Off Stoned Item” serves as both a functional object and a conversation starter, encouraging a deeper examination of the items we interact with in our daily lives.

Operating within familiar design paradigms can stifle innovation, leading to a cycle of redundant thought and design patterns. To break free from this cycle, we employed a principle of recombination, prioritizing creative form-finding over pre-defined functionality.

This approach allowed us to challenge conventional design norms and rethink our usual practices.

The end result is a reimagined object, inspired by forms found in our everyday environment.
